All aboard for
slow travel
On the move
A new era of British rail travel has
dawned with the launch of
Britannic Explorer, A Belmond
Train – the first luxury sleeper
service to run through England
and Wales. It’s a landmark
moment: not just a nostalgic
nod to the golden age of rail,
but a bold reimagining for a new
generation of slow travellers.
Departing from London, the
train offers three-night journeys
through Cornwall, the Lake
District and Wales, with optional
guided excursions and thoughtful,
regional dining – think leek tart
and rarebit picnics in Wales, or
an alfresco barbecue in Cornwall.
By night, guests can unwind
in the botanically inspired
Observation Car Bar, or settle
into one of two dining carriages,
Malva and Samphire, where
menus by renowned chef Simon
Rogan celebrate the produce of
the landscapes rolling by. With
its unhurried pace and exquisite
interiors – and days that open
with grilled orchard fruits and
smoked eel on toasted rye – it
feels both timeless and perfectly
attuned to today’s traveller.
